My approach to unretouched portraiture

I've been published in online (and some print) magazines several times over the years, but it isn't something I generally promote. It is extremely easy to get "published" in one form or another, and very few publications are actually solicited or paid editorials. Most are free submissions to magazines that hope to upsell content or prints back to the contributors.

However, it is still pretty cool to help a new model get their face out there and for a new photographer to get some recognition for their work. While some calls for work are predictably easy to get accepted into, other publications are more discerning and may have a specific theme or other requirements. I am always amused that one of the expectations is usually that images be "professionally retouched", and of course I don't do any retouching of my portraits. I might do the occasional blemish removal or de-dusting of the negatives, but that's really the extent of my image manipulation after the scan is in!

It was therefore very cool that not only did I recently get another publication accepted, but I was offered the opportunity for an interview on my approach to unretouched analog portraiture, and the Forty over 40 on Film Project specifically.
